Step into one of Iceland’s most intriguing mysteries. This remarkable historical site has been looked after by the same family for five generations. In recent years they have made these ancient man-made caves accessible for visitors, offering a unique glimpse into Iceland’s fascinating past. The caves are a protected historical site and are believed to be among Iceland’s oldest surviving archaeological remains. Some theories suggest that they may even predate the settlement of Iceland by the Norse Vikings. Join a one-hour guided tour led by a local guide and enjoy an authentic and compelling storytelling experience.
Guided tours are offered several times a day. Please check the booking system at the bottom of this page for available times.

Caves of Hella are ideally located by Route 1 (the Ring Road) on the South coast.

○ Admission fee and an hour-long guided tour in English.
○ Tours in Icelandic on the first Saturday of every month at 14:00.

We will explore the caves and their surroundings, please be prepared for a short easy walk between the caves and dress according to weather.
Clothes according to weather and don´t forget your camera! You might consider leaving your high heels at home.
